We are Roshni Kavate and Rebecca Servoss, two nurses who created Marigolde to bring warm, nourishing care and support to your grief journey. As nurses and birth workers, we have walked alongside families navigating the darkest times of their lives. Loss and grief are profound transformations in a person’s life, yet they are often met with silence, a lack of meaningful support, and boring platitudes.

While witnessing the grief journeys of our patients and their families, we were met not only with sadness and heartbreak, but with moments of beauty and joy, intimate connection, faith, and resilience. As nurses, we have had the unique and honored privilege of witnessing unfathomable transformation in people as they allow themselves to be vulnerable enough to be witnessed in their grief.

Having worked closely with grief and bereavement, we found the scope of support for patients, families, and even healthcare workers dealing with grief and loss to be lacking in what we view as a grief crisis. So, we are bringing together practitioners, modalities, and practices to address the complicated and intricate ways that grief settles into our lives. Marigolde is creating a new paradigm for grief support, built on hope, joy, and the strength of the human spirit.

At Marigolde, we grieve boldly, love tenderly, and celebrate the blooming, visceral transformation that unfolds in grieving people. We hold, celebrate, and honor the spectrum of life’s experiences.

We are here with you. We are Marigolde.

The Marigolde community is an inclusive space for people across all identities, this is an anti-racist, queer and trans affirming space, and we believe grief support should include people across all expressions of humanity.

Meet Our Founders

Roshni Kavate is an Artist, Grief Coach and Educator. Roshni Kavate is the Co-Founder, CEO and Creative Director of Marigolde. She believes grief is a portal to wholeness. Through rituals and storytelling, we can reconnect to our origins and be our wild selves. She sees the path to being whole as a radical art and political practice. The question that guides her is, What is our grief craving? and how can we nourish and feed it?

Roshni earned a B.S in Nutritional Sciences from UC Berkeley, a B.S in Nursing from NYU with honors and Ayurveda Post Partum Caregiver Training from The Center for Sacred Window Studies. She is also trained in Urban Zen Integrative Yoga Therapy to provide complementary holistic care to people with serious illness. Roshni has over a decade of Nursing experience in both clinical and leadership positions working with diverse populations in New York City, Los Angeles and Oakland. Her work has spanned from working as birth doula, transplant ICU nurse, home health nurse and to an end of life nurse. Most recently she worked as a Palliative Care Nurse at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland.

Roshni's early childhood was marked by the grief her mother and ancestors experienced by living on the margins based on gender and caste. Similarly in the United States, as a Nurse, Roshni witnessed racialized trauma and its lasting impact on the health and wellness of communities of color. Combining her interest in art, wellness and advocacy she has launched Marigolde to reimagine what it means to embody our freedom and live in our pleasure.
